Problem

A pendulum of length 1.20 m1.20\,\text{m} is oscillating with a small amplitude. When the bob is 2.0 cm2.0\,\text{cm} away (measured along the arc) from its equilibrium position, the tension in the string provides the centripetal component of the force, while gravity supplies the restoring component. The mass of the bob is 0.30 kg0.30\,\text{kg}. (1) Determine the angular displacement of the bob in degrees at the instant its linear displacement is 2.0 cm2.0\,\text{cm}. (2) Calculate the magnitude of the restoring torque about the pivot acting on the bob at that instant. (3) If the maximum angular displacement during the motion is 4.0∘4.0^{\circ}, estimate the maximum restoring torque that occurs during each cycle.
