Problem

A mass–spring system consists of a 0.30 kg0.30\,\text{kg} block attached to a horizontal spring of force constant 45 N m−145\,\text{N}\,\text{m}^{-1}. The displacement xx is measured from the equilibrium position towards the right and taken as positive. At t=0t = 0 the block is 0.050 m0.050\,\text{m} to the left of equilibrium (hence x0=−0.050 mx_0 = -0.050\,\text{m}) and released from rest. (i) Determine the amplitude AA of the motion. (ii) Find the initial phase ϕ\phi in radians. (iii) Write the equation x(t)x(t) describing the motion. (iv) Calculate the total mechanical energy of the oscillation. (v) Find the maximum speed attained by the block during its motion.
