Problem

A square metal plate of side 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m} is coated with a special dull black paint whose absorptive power is 0.800.80 (assumed constant over the relevant wavelengths). The plate is maintained at a uniform temperature of 600 K600\,\text{K}. Take σ=5.67×10−8 W m−2K−4\sigma = 5.67\times10^{-8}\,\text{W m}^{-2}\text{K}^{-4}. (i) State the numerical value of the emissivity of the coated surface. (ii) Calculate the total power radiated per second from the coated surface. (iii) Find the ratio of this power to the power that would be radiated by an ideal blackbody of the same area at the same temperature.
