Problem

Consider the infinite geometric progression 8,2,0.5,0.125,…8, 2, 0.5, 0.125,\dots with first term a=8a=8 and common ratio r=14r=\tfrac14. (i) Find the sum of the first five terms. (ii) Find the sum to infinity of the series. (iii) Calculate the remainder after the first five terms are taken, and express this remainder as a percentage of the sum to infinity (correct to two decimal places).
