Problem
A factory produced 500 electric bulbs in one batch. During testing, 5 bulbs were found to be defective.
(i) Find the empirical probability that a randomly selected bulb from this batch is defective.
(ii) Classify the event D: “the selected bulb is defective” as certain, impossible, or possible but not certain.
(iii) Find the empirical probability that the selected bulb is not defective.
(iv) Using your answers to parts (i) and (iii), verify that the probabilities of the complementary events D and D′ add up to 1.
