Problem

A sonometer wire of length 1.20 m1.20\,\text{m}, under a tension of 80 N80\,\text{N}, has a linear mass density of 5.0×10−3 kg m−15.0\times10^{-3}\,\text{kg\,m}^{-1}. (a) Calculate the fundamental frequency of vibration of the wire. (b) The tension is slowly increased to 200 N200\,\text{N} without changing the length or the linear density. Determine the new fundamental frequency. (c) Find the percentage increase in the fundamental frequency due to the change in tension.
