Problem

From a fixed lamp post taken as the origin, a student first walks 200 m200\,\text{m} due west and then 150 m150\,\text{m} due north. (i) Find the magnitude of the student’s resultant displacement from the lamp post. (ii) Determine the direction of this displacement, expressing the answer as an angle north of west. (iii) The student now wishes to reach a point R that is situated 100 m100\,\text{m} directly east of the lamp post. Calculate the additional distance and direction (bearing) the student must walk from the present position to reach point R.
