Problem

A spacecraft, of mass 12500 kg12500 \text{ kg}, has a rocket engine that ejects 4.0 kg4.0 \text{ kg} of hot gas every second at a speed of 250 ms−1250 \text{ ms}^{-1} . Calculate (1) the force on the spacecraft. (2) the acceleration of the spacecraft. (3) the impulse felt by the spacecraft if the rocket engine were used for a time of 20 s20 \text{ s} . (4) the change in speed of the spacecraft.
