Problem

A 2.0 kg2.0\,\text{kg} block is released from rest at the top of a friction-less curved track of height 1.2 m1.2\,\text{m}. The bottom of the track joins smoothly to a horizontal table that is 0.8 m0.8\,\text{m} long and offers kinetic friction with coefficient μk=0.20\mu_{k}=0.20. Beyond the table the block reaches a rough carpet that is too rough for any further motion. (i) Calculate the speed of the block as it reaches the beginning of the horizontal table. (ii) Determine the distance the block travels on the horizontal table before coming to rest.
