Problem

Two whistles, A and B, are blown simultaneously. Whistle A has a frequency of 500 Hz. In a time interval of 4.0 s, whistle B produces 220 more oscillations than whistle A. Take the speed of sound in air to be 340 m/s. (i) Calculate the frequency of whistle B. (ii) Determine the time periods of whistles A and B. (iii) Find the difference between their wavelengths. (iv) Which whistle produces the higher-pitched note? Justify your answer using the calculations above.
