Problem
Two objects, each of mass m and radius R, start from rest at the same height at the top of identical frictionless ramps. Object 1 is a hoop that rolls without slipping. Object 2 is an identical hoop attached to a small lightweight sled so that it slides down the ramp without rotating. Air resistance is negligible.
(a) Describe how the total mechanical energy is partitioned between translational and rotational forms for each object as it moves down the ramp.
(b) Identify which object reaches the bottom first. Explain your reasoning, referencing the energy considerations discussed in part (a).
