Problem

A capture reaction is given by   612C+01n  →    613C+γ.^{12}_{\;6}\mathrm{C}+^{1}_{0}\mathrm{n}\;\rightarrow\;^{13}_{\;6}\mathrm{C}+\gamma. Using the atomic masses 12C=12.000000 u^{12}\mathrm{C}=12.000000\,\text{u}, 1n=1.008665 u^{1}\mathrm{n}=1.008665\,\text{u}, 13C=13.003355 u^{13}\mathrm{C}=13.003355\,\text{u}, calculate: (i) the Q-value of the reaction in MeV, (ii) whether the reaction is exothermic or endothermic. Take 1 u=931.5 MeV/c21\,\text{u}=931.5\,\text{MeV}/c^{2}.
