Problem

For the deuteron 12 ⁣H^{2}_{1}\!\text{H} the following data are given: • Mass of a proton mp=1.00728 um_p = 1.00728\,\text{u} • Mass of a neutron mn=1.00866 um_n = 1.00866\,\text{u} • Nuclear mass of deuteron M=2.01355 uM = 2.01355\,\text{u} Take 1 u=931.5 MeV1\,\text{u} = 931.5\,\text{MeV}. Calculate: (i) the mass defect of the deuteron, (ii) its total binding energy, (iii) its binding energy per nucleon.
