Problem

A concave spherical mirror has focal length f=20 cmf = 20\,\text{cm}. An object of height 3.0 cm3.0\,\text{cm} is placed on the principal axis of the mirror. Answer the following about the image that is produced when the image is required to be the *same size* as the object and *inverted*. (a) Determine the object distance sos_{o} that satisfies the stated image conditions. (b) Calculate the corresponding image distance sis_{i} and state whether the image is real or virtual. (c) Determine the height hih_{i} (including its algebraic sign) of the image. (d) If the object is moved 5.0 cm5.0\,\text{cm} farther from the mirror than the distance found in part (a), predict qualitatively (no calculation required) how the size and orientation of the new image will compare with those in parts (a)–(c). Justify your prediction.
