Problem

A transverse wave on a taut string is described by the equation yi=3.0 mm  sin⁡(120π t−4π x)y_i = 3.0\,\text{mm}\;\sin\bigl(120\pi\,t - 4\pi\,x\bigr) where xx is in metres and tt in seconds. The wave travels towards a rigid wall at x=0x = 0 and is perfectly reflected by it. (a) Write the equation of the reflected wave. (b) Obtain the expression for the resultant displacement y(x,t)y(x,t) on the string after reflection. (c) Calculate the instantaneous displacement at the point x=0.25 mx = 0.25\,\text{m} when t=0.020 st = 0.020\,\text{s}.
