Problem

A metal sheet of area 0.50 m² is coated with a paint whose emissivity is 0.60. When operating, the sheet exhibits a peak emission wavelength of 500 nm. (i) Determine the absolute temperature of the sheet. (ii) Calculate the radiant power emitted by the painted surface. (iii) The input heating power is now adjusted so that the total radiant power from the sheet doubles. Assuming emissivity remains unchanged, find the new wavelength corresponding to maximum emission. (Use b=2.898×10−3 m Kb = 2.898\times10^{-3}\,\text{m\,K} and σ=5.67×10−8 W m−2K−4\sigma = 5.67\times10^{-8}\,\text{W\,m}^{-2}\text{K}^{-4}.)
