Problem

(a) State the triangle law of vector addition. (b) Two vectors are given in component form as a=axi^+ayj^+azk^\mathbf{a}=a_x\hat{i}+a_y\hat{j}+a_z\hat{k} and b=bxi^+byj^+bzk^\mathbf{b}=b_x\hat{i}+b_y\hat{j}+b_z\hat{k}. Show, by comparing the component–wise sum with the graphical triangle law, that both methods lead to the same resultant vector. (c) Explain why vector addition is commutative on the basis of your result in part (b).
