Problem

A rubber ball of mass 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} strikes a horizontal floor vertically and rebounds without loss of speed. Just before impact it is moving downward at 10 m s−110\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} and just after impact it is moving upward at 8 m s−18\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. (i) Taking upward as the positive direction, find the change in momentum of the ball. (ii) Repeat the calculation if downward is chosen as the positive direction. (iii) Comment on whether the physical impulse delivered by the floor depends on the choice of coordinate direction.
