Problem

A straight copper rod 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m} long is placed in a uniform magnetic field of strength 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}. The rod carries a current of 8 A8\,\text{A}. (a) The rod makes an angle of 30∘30^{\circ} with the field lines. Calculate the magnitude of the force experienced by the rod. (b) The rod is now rotated so that it is perpendicular to the magnetic field. Calculate the new magnitude of the force. (c) Find the ratio of the forces obtained in parts (a) and (b).
