Problem

Aqueous solutions of barium chloride and sodium sulfate are combined at 25 °C. • 25.0 mL of 0.040 M BaCl2_2 • 35.0 mL of 0.060 M Na2_2SO4_4 The solubility‐product constant for BaSO4_4 at this temperature is Ksp=1.1×10−10K_{sp}=1.1\times10^{-10}. Assume volumes are additive. (a) Calculate the molar concentrations of Ba2+^{2+} and SO42−_4^{2-} immediately after mixing but before any precipitation occurs. (b) Determine the ionic product QQ for BaSO4_4 under the conditions in part (a). (c) State whether a precipitate of BaSO4_4 will form. Justify your answer by comparing QQ to KspK_{sp}. (d) Write the net ionic equation for any reaction that takes place or clearly indicate that no reaction occurs.
