Problem

The velocity of a skateboarder moving in a straight line is recorded at three instants: 0 s:  3 m/s0\,\text{s}:\;3\,\text{m/s}, 2 s:  9 m/s2\,\text{s}:\;9\,\text{m/s}, 5 s:  −3 m/s5\,\text{s}:\;-3\,\text{m/s} (opposite direction to the initial motion). Calculate the following: (a) Average acceleration during the first 2 s2\,\text{s}. (b) Average acceleration during the next 3 s3\,\text{s}. (c) Average acceleration for the entire 0–5 s0\text{–}5\,\text{s} interval and state its sign.
