Problem

For a progressive mechanical wave moving along a stretched string, answer the following: (i) Define wavelength and time period of the wave. (ii) Using your definitions, explain why the distance travelled by the disturbance in one second equals the product of the wave’s frequency and its wavelength. (iii) Hence show that the speed of a progressive wave is given by the product of its frequency and wavelength.
