Problem

A large, flat mirror is mounted vertically so that its outward-facing normal points due east. A narrow laser beam is observed emerging from the mirror traveling 30∘30^{\circ} north of east in a horizontal plane. Assume the beam and the normal both lie in the same horizontal plane. (a) Determine the angle between the incident ray and the mirror’s normal. (b) Draw a qualitative ray diagram that clearly shows the mirror, its normal, the incident ray, and the reflected ray. Label all relevant angles in your diagram and explain how your diagram is consistent with the numerical result in part (a).
