Problem

Two smooth spheres A and B of masses 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} and 0.30 kg0.30\,\text{kg} respectively lie in contact on a horizontal friction-free track. Sphere A is moving toward B with a speed of 3.0 m s−13.0\,\text{m s}^{-1} while B is at rest. The coefficient of restitution for their collision is 0.900.90. Just beyond B is a rigid vertical wall. The coefficient of restitution for the collision between B and the wall is 0.800.80. (i) Calculate the speeds of A and B immediately after their mutual collision. (ii) Determine the speed of B just after it rebounds from the wall.
