Problem

Let f(x)=2x2+bx+cf(x)=2x^{2}+bx+c be a quadratic polynomial whose zeros are α\alpha and β\beta. Given that α+β=5\alpha+\beta=5 and αβ=4\alpha\beta=4, answer the following: (i) Find the values of bb and cc. (ii) Form the quadratic equation whose roots are 1α\dfrac1\alpha and 1β\dfrac1\beta and write it in the standard form Ax2+Bx+C=0Ax^{2}+Bx+C=0. (iii) Calculate the value of 1α+1β\dfrac{1}{\alpha}+\dfrac{1}{\beta} and verify that it equals −BA-\dfrac{B}{A} for the equation obtained in part (ii).
