Problem

A small graphite cavity is heated steadily and its peak emission wavelength is measured with different thermocouples. The observations are: Temperature TT (K): 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600 Peak wavelength λmax\lambda_{\text{max}} (μ\mum): 3.60, 2.90, 2.40, 2.05, 1.80 (i) Calculate the numerical value of λmaxT\lambda_{\text{max}}T (in m K\text{m\,K}) for each reading. (ii) Determine the mean value of λmaxT\lambda_{\text{max}}T for the five readings and find the percentage deviation of every individual product from this mean. (iii) State, with proper numerical reasoning, whether the experimental data validate the constancy of the product λmaxT\lambda_{\text{max}}T within a tolerance of ±5%\pm5\%.
