Problem

A laboratory track forms a smooth incline of unknown angle θ\theta. When a small trolley is released from rest, its acceleration along the track is measured to be 4.0 m s−24.0\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (i) Derive an expression for θ\theta in terms of the measured acceleration aa and the usual acceleration due to gravity gg. (ii) Using g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}, calculate the value of θ\theta correct to the nearest degree. (iii) If the length of the track is 3.5 m3.5\,\text{m}, compute the time the trolley takes to travel the full length starting from rest.
