Problem

Monochromatic ultraviolet light of frequency 8.0×1014 Hz8.0\times10^{14}\,\text{Hz} falls normally on a clean sodium surface. The work function of sodium is 2.3 eV2.3\,\text{eV}. Take Planck’s constant h=6.63×10−34 J sh=6.63\times10^{-34}\,\text{J\,s} and charge of an electron e=1.6×10−19 Ce=1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{C}. (a) Calculate the stopping potential required to reduce the photocurrent to zero. (b) If the intensity of incident light is doubled while the frequency remains unchanged, what will be the new value of the stopping potential? Give reason. (c) Determine the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted photoelectrons in eV\text{eV}.
