Problem

Two forces act concurrently at a point: F1=40 N\mathbf{F}_1 = 40\,\text{N} at 60∘60^{\circ} above the positive xx-axis, and F2=30 N\mathbf{F}_2 = 30\,\text{N} at 150∘150^{\circ} from the positive xx-axis. A third force F3\mathbf{F}_3 is to be applied so that the particle remains in equilibrium. (a) Obtain the resultant F1+F2\mathbf{F}_1+\mathbf{F}_2 in unit–vector notation. (b) Hence determine the magnitude and direction of F3\mathbf{F}_3.
