Problem

Starting from the origin, a runner covers 2.0 km2.0\,\text{km} due east in 10 min10\,\text{min}, then 1.0 km1.0\,\text{km} due west in 5 min5\,\text{min}, and finally runs straight back to the starting point in the next 20 min20\,\text{min}. (a) Calculate the average speed for the entire 35 min35\,\text{min} run. (b) Calculate the average velocity for the entire run, giving its magnitude and direction. (c) Comment on the numerical relationship between the average speed and the magnitude of the average velocity obtained above.
