Problem

A physics lab uses a horizontal mass–spring system to study oscillations. The spring constant is k=250 N ⁣⋅ ⁣m−1k = 250\,\text{N}\!\cdot\!\text{m}^{-1} and the attached mass is m=0.60 kgm = 0.60\,\text{kg}. Friction is negligible. (a) Determine the period of small oscillations of the system. (b) Calculate the corresponding frequency in hertz. (c) The experiment is repeated with the mass increased to 2.40 kg2.40\,\text{kg} while the same spring is used. Compute the new frequency.
