Problem

A laboratory keeps a small metal cylinder marked "1.96×1061.96 \times 10^{6} dynes" when weighed on Earth. Answer the following questions: (i) Convert the marked value to newtons. \newline (Take 1 N=105 dynes1\,\text{N} = 10^{5}\,\text{dynes}.) (ii) Using g=9.8 m/s2g = 9.8\,\text{m/s}^2, calculate the mass of the cylinder. (iii) The cylinder is carried to the centre of the Earth. State and explain what its weight would be at that point.
