Problem

For x>1x>1, let I=∫sec⁡−1x dxI = \int \sec^{-1} x\, dx. (i) Show that I=xsec⁡−1x−ln⁡∣x+x2−1∣+CI = x\sec^{-1}x - \ln\left|x + \sqrt{x^{2}-1}\right| + C, where CC is the constant of integration. (ii) Verify your result in part (i) by differentiating the right–hand side and simplifying.
