Problem

A small filament can be approximated as a black surface of area 4.0 cm24.0\,\text{cm}^2. When it is glowing steadily, instruments show that it is radiating energy at the rate of 2.0 kW2.0\,\text{kW} into surroundings whose temperature may be taken as negligible. (i) Express the surface area of the filament in SI units. (ii) Determine the absolute temperature of the filament. (iii) Express the temperature obtained in part (ii) on the Celsius scale.
