Problem

For an arithmetic progression, the sum of the first mm terms is pp and the sum of the first nn terms is q  (m≠n)q\;(m\neq n). (i) Derive expressions for the first term aa and the common difference dd in terms of m, n, pm,\,n,\,p and qq. (ii) Using your expressions, find aa and dd when m=5,  p=55m=5,\;p=55 and n=11,  q=165n=11,\;q=165.
