Problem

A 4.0 kg4.0\,\text{kg} lab cart starts from rest on a horizontal surface. A constant horizontal force does 120 J120\,\text{J} of work on the cart while it moves 2.0 m2.0\,\text{m}, after which the force is removed. The cart then coasts 3.0 m3.0\,\text{m} up a 37∘37^{\circ} incline where the coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.150.15. At the top of the incline the cart immediately contacts a light horizontal spring with force constant 200 N/m200\,\text{N/m} and finally comes momentarily to rest after compressing the spring. Neglect air resistance. What is the maximum compression of the spring? (a) 0.84 m0.84\,\text{m} (b) 1.2 m1.2\,\text{m} (c) 0.60 m0.60\,\text{m} (d) 0.42 m0.42\,\text{m}
