Problem

In a geometric progression, the ratio of the sum of the first three terms to the sum of the first six terms is 1:71:7. It is further given that the sum of the first three terms is 9. (i) Obtain an equation in the common ratio rr from the given ratio of sums and solve for rr. (ii) Using the value of rr, find the first term aa.
