Problem

A skipping rope is stretched tightly between two fixed posts that are 2.4 m2.4\,\text{m} apart. A student moves one end of the rope up and down so that exactly three complete transverse waves are "frozen" between the posts at one instant. The maximum height of any point on the rope above its mean position is 8 cm8\,\text{cm}. The student completes 55 up-and-down oscillations in 2 s2\,\text{s}. (i) Calculate the wavelength of the wave on the rope. (ii) State the amplitude of the wave. (iii) Find the frequency of the wave produced by the student. (iv) Determine the speed with which the wave travels along the rope.
