Problem

A hollow cylindrical light-pole of negligible thickness and radius 0.40\,m is to receive two coats of anti-rust paint on its curved outer surface only. A 250\,mL tin of paint is available; each litre of this paint covers 20\,m2^{2} in one coat. (i) Calculate the total curved surface area that can be covered with two coats by the given quantity of paint. (ii) Determine, correct to the nearest centimetre, the greatest possible height of the pole that can be completely painted with two coats. (iii) If the pole supplied by the manufacturer is 1.2\,m high, state with reason whether the available paint is sufficient for two coats.
