Problem

A ball is dropped from a height of 2 m2\,\text{m} onto a perfectly vertical surface. After each impact with the surface, the ball rebounds to 60% of the height from which it just fell. Neglect air resistance and assume the time spent in contact with the surface is negligible. (1) Part 1: (a) Let DnD_n be the total vertical distance the ball has traveled by the time it reaches its maximum height after the nnth rebound. Write an expression for DnD_n in terms of nn. (2) Part 2: (b) Determine the exact limiting value of DnD_n as n→∞n\to\infty, and state this value in meters. (3) Part 3: (c) Find the least integer nn such that Dn>9 mD_n > 9\,\text{m}. Show all reasoning clearly.
