Problem

An athlete runs 55 complete laps of a 400 m400\,\text{m} circular track. The recorded times for the five laps are 2 min 05 s2\,\text{min}\,05\,\text{s}, 2 min 10 s2\,\text{min}\,10\,\text{s}, 2 min 15 s2\,\text{min}\,15\,\text{s}, 2 min 20 s2\,\text{min}\,20\,\text{s} and 2 min 10 s2\,\text{min}\,10\,\text{s} respectively. (i) Determine the total distance covered and the total time taken. (ii) Calculate the athlete’s average speed for the whole run. (iii) Find the magnitude of the athlete’s average velocity for the run and state the reason for your answer.
