Problem

In a binary star system, Star A exhibits maximum spectral intensity at 360 nm, while Star B is observed to emit eight times the total radiant power per unit surface area as compared to Star A. Take b=2.9×10−3 m Kb=2.9\times10^{-3}\,\text{m\,K} and σ\sigma to be the usual constant. (i) Calculate the surface temperature of Star A. (ii) Using the information on radiant power, determine the surface temperature of Star B. (iii) Hence compute the wavelength corresponding to maximum emission for Star B. (iv) State which star will appear bluer to an observer and justify your answer with the numerical results.
