Problem

Two simple pendulums A and B are suspended side by side in the school laboratory where the acceleration due to gravity is 9.8 m s−29.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}. (a) Pendulum A has length 1.00 m1.00\,\text{m} and time period TAT_A. The time period of pendulum B is observed to be twice that of A. Calculate the length of pendulum B. (b) The same pendulum B is taken to planet X where the acceleration due to gravity is 3.70 m s−23.70\,\text{m s}^{-2} and its length is unchanged. Determine its time period on planet X. (c) Comment, with reason, on whether pendulum B will run faster or slower on planet X compared with Earth.
