Problem

Suppose an object has thickness dudu, so that it extends from object distance uu to u+duu+du. Prove that the thickness dvdv of its image is (−v2u2)du\left(-\frac{v^2}{u^2}\right)du. Hence show that the longitudinal magnification is dvdu=−m2\frac{dv}{du}=-m^2, where mm is the lateral magnification.
