Problem

A monochromatic light source of frequency ff illuminates a metallic surface and ejects photoelectrons. The photoelectrons with maximum energy are just able to ionize hydrogen atoms in the ground state. When the experiment is repeated with incident radiation of frequency 56f\frac{5}{6}f, the emitted photoelectrons excite the hydrogen atom beam, which then emits radiation of wavelength 1215 A˚1215\,\text{\AA}. (a) What is the frequency of the radiation? (b) Find the work function of the metal.
