Problem

A bus travels 60 km60\,\text{km} due east in 1.2 h1.2\,\text{h} and then turns north, covering 45 km45\,\text{km} in 0.8 h0.8\,\text{h}. It finally halts at a town located 30 km30\,\text{km} further north in 0.6 h0.6\,\text{h}. (a) Find the total distance covered by the bus. (b) Calculate the average speed of the bus for the whole trip. (c) Determine, in magnitude and direction, the net displacement of the bus from its starting point. (d) Using your result from part (c), compute the average velocity of the bus for the same interval. (e) Comment on the difference between the numerical values obtained in parts (b) and (d).
