Problem

A ladder 13 m13\,\text{m} long rests against a vertical wall. Its foot is placed 5 m5\,\text{m} away from the wall on level ground. Let θ\theta be the angle that the ladder makes with the ground. (a) Find, to the nearest metre, the height at which the ladder touches the wall. (b) Calculate sin⁡θ\sin \theta, cos⁡θ\cos \theta and tan⁡θ\tan \theta. (c) Evaluate sin⁡2θ+cos⁡2θ\sin^2 \theta + \cos^2 \theta and comment on the result.
