Problem

A sample of solid silver chromate, Ag2_2CrO4_4, is added to pure water at 25 °C and allowed to reach equilibrium with its saturated solution. (a) Write the balanced chemical equation for the dissolution of Ag2_2CrO4_4(s) in water. (b) Based on the balanced equation in part (a), write the corresponding equilibrium‐constant expression for KspK_{sp}. (c) The solubility‐product constant for Ag2_2CrO4_4 at 25 °C is Ksp=1.2×10−12K_{sp}=1.2\times10^{-12}. Determine the molar solubility of Ag2_2CrO4_4 in mol L−1^{-1} under these conditions. (d) Convert the molar solubility calculated in part (c) to the mass (in g) of Ag2_2CrO4_4 that will dissolve per litre of solution at 25 °C.
