Problem

A puck of mass 0.50 kg slides on a frictionless horizontal surface. At t=0t=0 it moves due east at 4.0 m/s. Beginning at t=0t=0, a constant net horizontal force of 3.0 N east and 4.0 N north acts on the puck for 2.0 s. After t=2.0 st=2.0\,\text{s} the net force on the puck is negligible. (a) Determine the vector impulse delivered to the puck during the 2.0 s interval. (b) Calculate the puck’s momentum vector immediately after the force ceases. (c) Find the magnitude and compass direction of the puck’s velocity at t=2.0 st=2.0\,\text{s}. (d) Compute the puck’s kinetic energy before and after the force is applied, and determine the percent increase in kinetic energy.
