Problem

A drone makes two successive flights. In the first flight its displacement is A=450 ı^+200 ȷ^ m\mathbf{A}=450\,\hat\imath + 200\,\hat\jmath\,\text{m}. In the second flight its displacement is B=−150 ı^+500 ȷ^ m\mathbf{B}=-150\,\hat\imath + 500\,\hat\jmath\,\text{m}. (i) Determine the x–component and y–component of the resultant displacement R=A+B\mathbf{R}=\mathbf{A}+\mathbf{B}. (ii) Calculate the magnitude of R\mathbf{R} and the angle it makes with the positive x–axis, expressing the angle in the range 0∘0^{\circ} to 360∘360^{\circ}. (iii) Express the resultant displacement in unit–vector form, giving the numerical coefficients to three significant figures.
